>>21504430Rationality is the language we use to communicate with eachother and should be seen as the superior way until we reach certain agreed upon points and can talk about the role of the will and the instinctual.
>it is founded on the idea that humans have the ability to eventually rationally understand everythingThis is straight up incorrect, if anything it's the opposite. It's the one who believes in God-copes who believes himself to be able to grasp the mind of God, while the materialist understands the limitations of the mind and accepts there are a lot of things we will never have the ability to understand.
>An interesting point here is that materialism is often associated with determinism. If you are a determinist that would defeat your entire argument however. It doesn't, free will is real for the materialist, you just have to ask "free from what?" Unfortunately everyone I encountered who shares a similar worldview sucks on this topic. It's tied to your first objection, the will is one of the paradoxes that we will never be able to understand, so the will is eternally free from our knowledge.
But yes those are good points to bring to almost everyone else I encountered with similar views since they are too proud to let go and think "free will" is something that belongs to the christians. It's just tiresome.
With religious belief, the importance of this world takes second place to the importance of the divine and that's inherently nihilistic even if you can motivate people to do good things by proxy. Not everything about it is bad but ultimately it's a cowardly way to live. Not like I have a better alternative to propose in utilitarian terms.
>>21504433Nice. 99.99% of humanity is too weak to take on the burden of cold material realism. You shouldn't feel bad about it. I am probably too weak also. I met a guy who told me straight up "i'm a christian because I'm coping and so what? who gives a fuck? yes I am coping and fuck you faggots" that's based
