most of the session was spent duking it out with some NPCs over a contract to bodyguard a noble. when we first set eyes on them in a waiting room sort of area the DM described a "very irritable looking wizard" so naturally i wanted to push his buttons.
after some basic introductions he told me that he could easily vaporize me or something along those lines, so naturally i asked why he was taking a lowly job as a bodyguard. one of the other NPCs piped up to say that they were trying to get to an area above the city and the easiest way to do it was to get nobles' attention, so bodyguarding them is an easy stepping stone.
of course this made me curious why the wizard couldn't just take them up there with his magic and he said that he'd "love to if they didn't blast me out of the fucking sky when i do." now my character doesn't know a lot about magic, but he knows enough to think that surely that's just a poor choice of spell to use for transport on his end if he's soaring through the sky instead of teleporting or something. at this point he got very fed up and asked me if a fireball would be a better choice of spell to get him out of this conversation. i assured him that might very well be a great choice if that's what he wants to do. a little more back and forth and i was standing an a big open part of the room so that he could throw his fireball if that's what he really wanted to do. i was ready to just face tank it so i could laugh it off and call him a hothead or something, but it went a lot better than expected as one party member moved their familiar right in front of his face so it got hit by the fireball midair and detonated it right on top of the wizard, knocking him out cold instantly. the wizard also had to pay for damages to the room that the fireball caused
