It was an experiment to see if by raising a chimp among humans and trying to teach it human things if the chimp would become smarter than an average chimp. It was the ultimate nature versus nurture experiment. The chimp was raised alongside a little boy.
They ultimately discontinued the experiment because they found that, not only was the chimp not getting any smarter, but raising the chimp in the home was stunting the growth of the human male toddler. In other words, they didn't make the ape smarter. The human became dumber.
And when you consider that, suddenly the integration of US schools and the reason why schools look the way they do today becomes completely unmysterious.
