in the oil bus money is not an issue, they spend boat loads developing new tech and investigating but they are looking over larger areas. Finding/tracking veins large enough for hard rock mining would be more challenging, maybe not cost effective, but as technology continues to improve cost comes down and equipment is smaller and more portable.
