The thing is it isn't a necessity for nerds to go out like it used to be. You can get vidya/music/movies digitally or from amazon. Computer parts get delivered. The Steam Deck literally isn't sold in stores at all you have to order it online. You can play games online, they don't even support LAN anymore if you wanted to. Shitcord fills your brain's socialization needs enough to get by. Why would you go to an arcade where you would now probably have to pay a dollar per shitty arcade game, when you could play better games at home for a minimum of $0?
Sure, LAN parties were of course more fun and can't be replicated digitally, but since they're no longer a necessity, shy nerds became hikkikomori and don't even have any friends irl to set them up with if they wanted to get into them.
