It's like blaming a salmon for starving to death because it didn't learn to feed itself better when it's food supply became exhausted due to environmental factors. We no longer live in an environment that is overall constructive to how humans are built to survive, pair bond, reproduce, and raise offspring. One thing that is interesting about mental illness is that it's incredibly rare to see in animals found in nature but mental illness is much more common to find in animals in captivity like a zoo.
