I don't know if it's a Brit thing or if I'm just fucking deaf but I never picked up on "hard R" versus "A" thing when it comes to pronunciation. All sounded the same to me for years until I saw Americans talking about it online a few years back.
Think there was some white teacher who said it and was in trouble. He was saying he used it with an "A" as his excuse.
I knew different spellings, as going a long way back there was Niggaz 4 Life by NWA, which in turn was even called Efil 4 Zaggin to try and make that sound more palatable for radio or print media but I thought it was just way of writing it to try and skirt the censors. Didn't know it was actually said differently and it all sounded the same to my ears. All "er" words are pretty much "A"s the way I say or hear them.
