the short version of the setup is that a guy goes from living in total poverty hunting devils to getting devil super powers that let him turn his arms into chain saws and ends up continuing to hunt devils for much more pay with the government at the cost of losing all human rights due to the chainsaw thing.
a lot of the action is pretty mediocre and sometimes it can be hard to follow, but it's so insanely good at building suspense and inducing anxiety in the best way possible. there's something about the way that the protagonist is so stupid and unmotivated but likable that makes the entire series like watching a puppy meandering across a busy highway.
