I do not seek adversity or hardship. But I do not shy away from it when it presents itself, attached to something I have a reason to do. The second you take the attitude in life of "I want to avoid hard work/social confrontation/inconveniences at all costs" is the second you lose. You will rapidly become fat, stupid, lazy, sloppy, craven.
I will often fast the whole day just because, fuck it, why should I have a full tummy? I will work tasks I dislike at work, when I don't have to, if it means I learn something valuable. I will bring up an uncomfortable conversation topic, if I know there is a chance it helps someone I care about. Strategically putting yourself into situations that make you unhappy genuinely and unironically will force you to grow and develop mentally, emotionally, spiritually. You will become more sharp, you will become more socially plugged in. You will become more aware of human nature and understand how people manuever in conversations and in life, and understand more about persuasion.
You have to embrace the suck. You have to show the world you're not afraid of the suck. Then, after you're humbled a hundred times, the world allows you to learn.
