>>21892508>>21892512well a hat is just not the same as a hood.
a good cold weather coat has a hood. your body spends almost 80% of its energy trying to regelate the tempurature of your brain. your main body may be able to suffer a few degrees one way or the other, but your brain wont tolerate even slight tempurature changes. we have a saying "If your feet are cold, put your toque on". keeping the head warm should be your number one priority, and it really helps the rest of your body stay warm.
since your neck is so poorly insulated, and it is the main flow of blood to your brain, it is equally important to insulate your neck. by doing this you conserve alot of energy. this conserved energy can be used by the rest of your body to stay warm.
so a full hood, with strong neck protection is the way, the light and the truth of the northman! see my pic above. you want an interior collar, separate from the hood, but attached. so the neck is wrapped in fur, then the whole head. its never a bad idea to have a good acrylic touque underneath your hood. acrylic is better then polyesther or wool.
keeping your feet warm involves good heavy leather gaiters. keep your calves warm, and your feet will be warm. keeping moisture of your boots is essential.
