First month or three at home are fine with minimal equipment - in fact training without weights and doing basic fitness is probably most healthy thing to do, both mentally and physically. But you need weight to get buff, sheer volume won't cut it. When I was a very dumb teen, I was obsessed with excercise during summer and I am still wondering how I didn't fuck myself up by doing the shit I did, like 300 bicep curls over the course of 5 hours or 300 pushups in 16 hours. I did watch anime while doing all that so it might've been a mental illness afterall.
tl;dr - go to the gym, unless it's like half of your rent
