i was diagnosed with tourettes when I was a kid but they changed that diagnosis to autism, not sure if I actually have tourettes or not
I gained self-control and stopped having ticks in public or among other people but when I'm alone I have all sorts of sudden physical ticks

You probably have tourettes. It's controllable to a point, so long as you're distracted/comfortable. You realize it was a social stigma so use that to help you control it, but when you're alone you let loose and pay no mind to your ticks. I have the same thing happen.
