Ramping up energy production takes a long time. They can't just wave a magic wand and get a pipeline from the Middle East to replace that capacity when they need it this winter.
We dealt with the same problem in the US when we finally stopped the scamdemic lockdowns. Energy demand went back up, but oil companies took months to ramp up production, forcing them to raise their prices. Europe is getting hit with another wave of bad inflation until they can get more energy from somewhere else, thanks to these pipelines being shut down and sanctions on Russia.
