I liked Red but didn't care as much for Ruby/Emerald, do they get better again in the later generations?

Is there an emulator I can use for any of the newer ones (not like current gen, but newer than emerald) that lets me run multiple games at a time and trade Pokemon back and forth so I can catch em all on one save?
