>>3570253Oh, that reminds me that I was going to write a comparison between Oishii-Illuminati's scanlations and Dark Horse's official translation of the parts involving her. I'll start with a line in chapter 41 where she's foreshadowed for the first time.
Oishii-Illuminati: "My friend is coming this afternoon. Tidy up the rooms properly, ok?"
Dark Horse: "This afternoon my friends will be coming over. So, make sure this room is cleaned top to bottom."
The official translation starts off on the wrong foot, not connecting Yuka's line to Nozomi's appearance a few chapters later and seeming to assume it's just a throwaway line. This issue of translating lines in isolation without considering the context will be a reoccurring issue.
Moving on to chapter 43, Kouta asks Yuka about the friend, to which she replies:
OI: "A junior from my time at high school. Quite knowledgable. Usually takes first place on the countrywide sham exams."
DH: "My kohai from when I was in high school. Pretty much the best student there ever was, too. I mean, they basically took the top spot in all the sample tests - for the entire country."
Both get across roughly the same point, but DH is probably more accurate here. For comparison's sake, I'll also add the Japanese line and my own translation of it.
Raw: 「高校の時の後輩。すごい優等生なのよ。全国模試でも常に一桁っていうくらい」 (My kouhai from my time at high school. She's an amazing model student. To the extent that she's always in the top 10 even when it comes to the national mock exams.)
