C reminds me of the last episode of Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu, where the entire school was on lockdown for a dangerous airborne chemical/virus/bacteria/thing.
...Turned out all it did was destroy synthetic fibers. Specifically, the kinds that clothes are made of. Cue pretty much the entire school's clothes dissolving. This is a flash of a scene from that episode.
