Pool hopping is just free stuff determined by RNG.
Rock Climbing is a bit more technical and as a new player you'll be limited by what P skills you can strengthen since the best stuff comes from skill awakening SSRs. It's also a very grindy event without a trendy so as a newbie try and fully level the free P skill they give you for rock climbing.
