>>2687680By the way, the zip file format has the ability to avoid mojibake. Programs can store the Unicode filename, in addition to the local filename. But a lot of programs don't do this, and occasionally some of them even do it wrong by not actually storing Unicode in the Unicode filename field.
(I actually saw one Japanese zip file where half of the files did have the Unicode filename, while the rest of the files that must have been added to the zip file another time didn't have it.)
So if people used programs that did this, it would be a lot easier for people in other countries, and we wouldn't have to encourage other formats like rar.
