Let's be honest. If there was any possibility of a high speed rail in this country, Los Angeles to Las Vegas seems like one of the most probable candidates. Millions already transit this route and it seems like the demand is there.
The real question is whether or not these regional airliners like JetSuite (which BTW are getting kicked out of airports by big money because the competition is afraid) are able to grow and continue offering fast travel for cheap. Last I checked their tickets are like $80 one way from Burbank to Henderson for a 30 minute flight that boards on the tarmac and has no TSA.
How much is the HSR going to cost? Probably no less than $40-$50 and it will still take hours. Never mind that it doesn't even start in Los Angeles.
