>>1460384yeah, i know the feeling. in Argentina a combination of awful state administration and raping neoliberal policies destroyed our rails system, designed, built and run by the english around 1860, which was ok until around the 50's.
during the last decades there was a move toward trucks and buses and many of the extense network got abandoned, stations deserted, railtracks derelicted and even pillaged by the companies that bought the infrastructure. transport got far more expensive and moving small cargo is a nightmare.
where i live there was daily trains passing between the capital of the country and the capital of the province, and it used to be a 8 hours trip. now we have 2 trips a week and you have to spend 19 hours in the train!
in my town there used to be a big train park with passengers and cargo station, now remains only a small passengers station.
after many years of abandonment the rest was luckily recycled into a park and cultural center for the community.
