The rougher the surface, the faster you reach that breakpoint. That's where having wider more supple tires (on wider rims, rim width and how it affects the tire's shape is also important) helps and why the pros are now riding tubeless 28s or even 30s at lower pressures on tarmac. Tubulars are dead tech now btw
