I was just like you. That was until I discovered that modern bicycle ''saddles'' aren't actually saddles. They uncomfortable plastic seats, made to be as cheap as possible with as much as profit as possible, and require as little maintenance as possible from the end user. What you end up with is not a saddle, but an inferior, uncomfortable seat.
Here's my reasoning. The bicycle in and of itself is an old invention. Trying to modernize it is like trying to modernize a Ford Model T. Imagine a Model T but with plastic bodywork, modern car seats and a modern interior. It's not gonna lead to anything but epic failure. That's what most bicycles today are. It's a result of trying to modernize an old invention. Who is responsible for this? The UCI of course. Recumbent bicycles are actually what a modern future bicycle is meant to look like. But because UCI banned them, we live in a world where regular, oldschool bicycles have been ''modernized'' with plastic seats and all that crap, as a result, bicycles have become more uncomfortable than ever.
So what to do if you want to ride an old school (non recumbent) bicycle? Get a wide leather saddle, the Brooks B190 or the Lepper Hammock saddle. I did and it's the best saddle I've ever sat on. It's what a bicycle saddle is supposed to be and look like, modelled after the horse saddle.
