Here's my ghetto rack widening solution
Got a long steel rod
Bent it into a square-ish shape
Spray painted it black
Secured it to the rack with four hose clamps (fifth one clamps both ends of the rod together)
And wa la! Wider rack. Been rocking it for a couple of months with zero issues so far, hasn't gone loose or bent out of shape yet. Plus the clamp's bolt heads help keeping the cargo in place.
