>>1225051>Why do you need a triple for touring?1. Touring bike should have a low end of at least 18 gear inches. You can't get that with 1x without sacrificing the high end, and you can't get the high end with 2x unless you have a massive jump between chainrings
2. When you're doing 100-mile days you will want to change cadence to relax certain muscles. Briefly shifting to very high gears and mashing feels good
3. Weight is not an issue when you're carrying 30lbs of supplies. So you get to have many options
To answer the rest of your post, you are dumb as shit. They dropped 3x because it was too confusing for noobs, and the pros were all worried about weight.. When 2x and then 1x became popular, the issue trickled down from the component manufactures
two other reasons:
1. Triples never worked well with STI shifters
2. SRAM can't build a decent front derailer to save their lives because of their cable pull ratio
3. Modern cranks needed too wide of a q factor to run with triples

A classic square taper triple shifted with something that isn't SRAM or a brifter is great. It is slightly more complicated and not feather light, but it's really not that heavy and anyone prioritizing versitility over weight might like one
