The City had 2 other light rail lines on the books (Assuming Sheppard east is ever built), so there would be 3 transit lines using the same vehicles.
Second advantage is part of this line's route runs on the road like a streetcar would, but on designated lanes like pic related. In the busiest part of the city it's completely tunneled, and with North/South traffic intersections, the line is either elevated over the intersection (at Black Creek Drive), or tunneled under (at Don Mills Road). I tunneling and underground stations are the most expensive part of the project, so this also allowed them to build it longer than maybe they would have if it was only subway
