Hello. I'm semi-seriously considering trying to become a UK merchant navy officer at 30 years old to try and un-fuck my life. A few questions but some context first in case any of these things hamper me. For the last 3 (three) years I've been NEET following a suicide attempt. Prior to that I worked for 5 years in an office and prior to that I had 2 failed attempts at university. My school-leaving grades are extremely good but that was a long, long time ago now and I've fucked up everything since then. Also I live in a city with one of the big naval colleges so that is fortunate.
Some general questions:
>will my years NEETing severely hurt my chances at sponsorship for college the same way they make getting a normal job impossible?
>will my suicide attempt make me immediately ineligible for entry i.e make me fail the medical?
Deck or ETO:
>ETO sounds kind of interesting but does it mean I will forever be below deck like stuck in an engine room?
>what are the personality / character differences between those who go the deck route vs those who go ETO route?
>would it be easier to get a job as an ETO i.e is there more demand for that role?
Many thanks.
