>>1424025>>Mate we'd love to hear all the model train drama you haveI hate to be ranting and shit, but check this fucking garbage out.
Club #2 that I joined, the cool one. We have a flea market day coming up in a week, so I took flyers to club #1. Fuckhead guy threw them away when I wasn't looking. Like, you know, no one else might be interested in going.
>>1425551Folks who do nothing are common. In fact, here's some weird shit for you to read:
Club #1's current longtime club president is a retired master electrical engineer from GE. I couldn't even tell you what kind of credentials he has, except that the guy can home-build the layout power supplies, where as other clubs are buying Digitrax power converters and such for their layouts. His progress is slow but his craft is pretty superb. However, because of his slow pace, scenery work of any kind on the layout has stagnated. All the guys who give a fuck are too old to do it, and guys like me who want to do it are not told of any kind of plan or theme for the shit that isn't finished. Therefore, fuck it.
Club #2's dynamic is the opposite. The club membership and layout both grew so fast that some parts of it are kind of hodge-podge and not as durable as you would want. Our main yard's superstructure is pretty frail, and susceptible to being leaned on because of its height. No one here is "mandated" to work on anything either, but the reigning mentality is that the only way to learn is to do.
I haven't talked much about club #2. There's a few old gears in the works either intentionally or unintentionally being a pain in the ass, but we have 49 keyed members, and our combined desires don't let anything stop us, even our own members. We have whole iron mining branch on a second level above our urban switching that has gone from foam to powered, painted track in less than a month. It's pretty awesome.
