I'd aim for a 0.3-hour electric only endurance and use a 1 cylinder, 2-stroke inline engine that burns jet fuel as my range extender. I'd also remove structural reinforcements on the wings and on the horizontal stabilizers so that the plane can stay aloft simply by sitting in pockets or air heated by the sun.
I'd also be willing to consider any necessary compromises, including the use of alloys which can spontaneously combust when exposed to liquid water.
