Why aren´t trailer busses commonly used anymore? Most coach-drivers get out of the bus to check the tickets of passengers and help them with their luggage anyway, so the seperate cab is not that big of an issue. They also are cheaper to build than a standard bus.

Having people in towed trailers is illegal in many if not all states

What if those laws wouldn´t exist or change?
Semis corner just fine, so i don´t see how that would be a problem, especially if these were used in rural areas or as highway coaches

a cuban classic, called camels there. i made a lot of trips on them many years ago, don't know if they are still popular. i think they imported the concept (or the actual trucks) from easter europe

when you live in a poor country is easier to refurbish an existing truck that to design and produce or import an expensive bus, i guess.

Too dangerous to operate, since the driver won't be able to see if passengers are sitting down, or if they're not blocking the doors. So, you'll need a conductor, and those guys aren't cheap.
Much simpler to not have trailer buses.
I think some ex-Soviet airports still use them, but that's about it.

Rear suspension on trucks is quite different to busses and normally stiffer. This doesn't make for great passenger comfort. Also trucks must adhere to a lower brake standard than busses. This goes mostly for jap trucks, European manufacturer's generally go for the highest braking standard regardless of final build spec and IDK about American trucks I'm not sure a lot of them even have brakes.

No direct, reliable communication with the driver in case of an emergency. That's really the main reason.

And I don't see how they'd be cheaper than normal buses unless you already have truck tractors standing around, which most bus companies don't.

Trailer busses are a thing in Germany, but they are pulled by busses and not by trucks. They used to be pretty big, but got ditched later on. Around 2010 or so they became a thing again. They save fuel as you can detach the trailer, thus leaving you with a smaller bus during off-peak hours.

Well, it's a bus with a bus trailer. The trailer itself is the bus trailer, but the whole vehicle indeed is a bus trailer bus.

Trucks are cheaper than bus chassis. I don't know why, I guess because a lot of very expensive parts (wiper mechanicals) etc. Can be mass produced and fitted production line style rather than having to be talored to the customers spec and fitted by a specialist.

As early as the mid-1940s, trailer buses began to fall out of favour for a variety of factors:

Each trailer bus normally requires a 2-person crew, w/ the conductor in the semi-trailer & the driver in the tractor.

The length of trailer buses makes it difficult for them to negotiate sharp turns at narrow street corners.

The perceived danger of a passenger-laden semi-trailer dislodging from its tractor while travelling has led to many jurisdictions in Australia, Canada, & the US prohibiting passengers being carried in towed trailers.
