I doubt the owners know about their vehicles any more than I have gleaned from the internet.

Thought some heritage rail way

Take out the battery box and the rear seats. Put in a low profile engine driving a 600v generator .

Can take tourists on a slow jaunt on a private rail line or siding on a week-end when the line is not in use. install a wye at the end and come back.

You wouldn't need to do that with a PCC. Just have it bumpstop-to-bumpstop.

think I could stuff a flat four diesel subaru engine in the back there convert the rear seat into a shelf to get enough room. mount a fuel tank forward at the standee window just opposite the rear doors

Hmmm.........how about some of the smaller Detroit diesels? Maybe one of the new Ford or Dodge 6 cylinder diesels they have offered the past 2 model years in 1/2 ton pickup trucks?
