A suspended monorail's platform is closer to the street level than any other dedicated right of way.
On the Chicago El, for example, you have to take stairs above truck level, then a few more above the mezzanine structure, then you take a second set of stairs above walking height on the mezzanine, then a few more for the track structure, then a final handful for the actual platform height.
The biggest trade-off, of course, is that without any structure beneath you, you have nowhere to go during a fire unless your train is equipped with evacuation chutes of some kind
