Because Spirit is always the cheapest and most affordable airline, period. I've been using them to fly from Missouri to Las Vegas for years, and some of the flights I've gotten have been cheaper than $60 one way, non-stop. It's simply an unbeatable deal. Plus, you get a free personal item carry-on which can be a backpack. If you're going somewhere for 3-4 days, you can fit all your clothes and stuff into a backpack.
If any other airline even came close to Spirit in terms of value, I would fly with that airline. But they don't. Unfortunately, because Spirit is such a generous and magnanimous company that genuinely cares for it's customers, it is going bankrupt. They could charge more money for tickets, and thus avoid bankruptcy, but they love us so much that they're willing to risk destroying the entire company just to provide us with an extremely affordable way to travel.
I mean, the fact that I can travel over 1,300 miles for less than $100, sometimes even less than 60 or 70 dollars, is batshit insane. There is no mode of transport that is more cost effective at anything approaching the same speed.
2 years ago I flew on Spirit to Las Vegas. There was in-flight promo for their credit card. If you signed up for the card, which was free for 1 year, and you spent $1000 within 3 months, you got 60,000 Spirit Points. One-way flights with spirit are sometimes as cheap as 3 or 4 thousand points.
I did the promo, got my 60k points, and since then I've had two round trips to Las Vegas completely for free, just using my points, and I still have 7k points left. I would've spent that money on a different card anyway. They literally gave me 4 flights for free just so the credit card could get $1000 worth of purchase data from me for 3 months. I just used it on bills and stuff.
