I spent at least an hour making these and launched them both into a lake within 5 casts each cause I can’t a knot or remember to close a fucking clip apparently.
Anyway still a successful trip. Spent an hour getting nothing then hand the rod to guy I went with and he gets one first cast

So I take the rod back and 5 casts later I get one (hand removed for dirty fingernails)
Also did casts with the stock pm burbles and it fucking sucks.
Get their barbed singles and debarb, it works. Proof in the pic.
First was caught on a silver/silver#4.
So all fishies caught with my gear have been on silver and tiger stripes. Hmm

I'm not a fan of that style of swivel clips. I find that they bend and pop out far too easily. I prefer picrel. They are a lot stronger and I've never had one unhook itself and bend out.

it's not so much that they're "not good," they don't have longevity. A Stradic will last you upwards of 10 or more years with regular cleaning and maintenance. I still use a gen 1 Stradic 2000 for bass fishing. Sedonas will get the work done but they are going to wear out much faster. Lots of the internals like the gears are plastic. Catching big fish and working the drag is going to run it down fast.

Eh~ Sierras are tanks, not great to use but hard to kill and the old AX500s had nice consistent drags and last forever as well. If someone asks for a cheap reel recommendation, they are hard to beat. But I consider the Sedona to be where they become competitive again once you’re above $30, and frankly I may still go Pflueger or Daiwa at that price point, depending on what I’m doing with it.

I have some of these too and they're defiantly heavy duty. But they're also very thick and "heavy", even the smallest ones I have. I do like them, but I like the ones I posted better because they have less weight.

Nah, no corn in your carp salad. If you've been offering them corn and they're not interested, they're not interested. Figure out which grasses they're munching on, cut it into 1/2in segments and pile a few of them on your hook. I'm not saying it'll work. But if it's what they're eating, I think it'll be a better chance than the corn they're ignoring. /shrug

I've never been mocked by a mink. But I have been shown up by river otters. I'm fishing all morning, catching nothing. Otters swim by, looking at me. One dives down and comes up with a fish. It was like he was saying "they're here, you just suck" lol

Has anyone been throwing urchin or coike lures? I innitially dismissed them as a fishing industry meme but I got some of the clones from ebay and have been slamming 4-7lb bass with them left and right. You can rig them with just a jig head or a 2/0-3/0 wacky worm hook and a vmc half moon wacky weight below it to keep it hook pointed up in the water.

Add a bobber stop bead on each side of your swivel. This will prevent your swivel from going inside the bobber tube maybe allowing it to not have leverage to snap off

Finally had a decent fishing day on an overcast rainy cool day. Had 3 rods out with high low rigs in escalating sizes. The 10lb spinning rig with small circles and shrimp caught flounder and croaker, the medium spinning rig with croaker chunks caught blues, and the heaver with the 3/0 senator and half croakers caught rays. Nothing much by local standards but good action, and a fun day. This was the first time I really trusted and stuck with circle hooks. I think I finally understand them.

Cleaned up my new Simms G3 waders after their first season, sprayed them down with isopropyl alcohol and.. no pin holes! Glad I ignored reddit and picked up a pair on clearance last summer. Used them a lot throughout the fall and spring, and even a handful of times during the winter.

actually you can make leather out of any skin, i've read a bit on it and apparently basic tanning is pretty simple
