What do you guys do about crowded spots such as a pier? I like to fish alone. It’s not that I’m worried about other people “stealing” the fish I just genuinely prefer solitude and fishing is kind of a therapy for me to go be alone with nature. I just went to a small pier I’ve been wanting to try and I turned back the second I saw it had people on it. I just wanna be able to go be alone while I fish. I also don’t get people who if they show up to the spot you’re already at having to stand shoulder to shoulder with you or within 5 feet of you when there’s legit plenty of room for them to go set up 10 feet away if not 50 feet more, do these people see it as a social thing or do they just think it increases their odds? I’ve experienced this at piers and ponds and the beach and even canals so often that I turn around when a spot is overcrowded like today. Shoulda got there earlier I suppose

Oh and I meant to say, it’s been my experience that 50/50 if I do go set up at a place like that or within 20 feet of someone they get all pissy about it and spend the rest of the time bitching and moaning about it with little quips like “it WAS a good day until this pig came to fish on top of me” it makes what should be a chill day insufferable. Entirely depends on the type of fishermen but piers seem to attract those types more than anyone. It’ll even be guys who all the times prior to that came and set up right fucking next to me with an empty pier who when I set up 20 feet away get all bent out of shape about it. What’s the deal, are most fishers assholes or have there been an increasing amount of assholes getting into fishing over the last 10 years?

For pelagic fish like spanish mackerel, jack crevalle etc. you're pretty much chasing schools when on a pier. When one person hooks up you see everyone swarm that spot. It's pretty common.

Those are the types who I’ve noticed get hypocritical about it. They’re the first ones to pull the “you don’t own the water” card even though by the same logic they should be giving people space but then will turn around and throw a fit and moan if you come fish “too close” to them. I’m becoming increasingly resentful with boomers lack of self reflection and awareness and overall entitlement and it’s kind of gay to have to see it in the one thing I do for leisure as well. Browns I don’t think I gotta go in depth there.
Shit I even once had a boomer tell me to fuck off in that back handed southern polite way for fishing my neighborhood bridge when he was just strolling by not even fishing himself. Told me about an overly fished blown up spot 10 miles away that was “better” just for me to get my first 5lb bass at that bridge

Fished a different bridge today. Caught something within seconds of casting every single time. And then three different boats decided they apparently didn't like that I was catching fish and they weren't, and decided to blast through the EXACT spot I was casting even though the other 95% of the river was empty. Fuck people with boats, honestly.

No, it's the incorrect way to hold a fish. I'd hooked it sorta deep and couldn't get the hook out while lipping it. This bridge also has about 2 feet of sidewalk to stand on and it's an interstate road, if the fish flopped into the road it was toast, so it can deal with some dry scales.

Here's the alternate way of snapping a picture on these narrow bridges!

Just upgraded my reel from a circa 2012 Pflueger President to a Daiwa Legalis and this was the first bite on it. The President was fine, but the Legalis feels like a huge step up. Casts far as fuck, drag is butter smooth, and it's about a full ounce lighter.

I think everywhere is dry now, we didn’t get no damn snow or rain this year.

Anyone fishing pressured waters and constantly getting skunked needs to try some of the more exotic JDM lures and techniques. A few weeks ago I caught 6 decent bass ranging from 3 to 5lbs hover strolling with a deps sakamata shad while the guys next to me got nothing at all.

you don't have to buy expensive jdm baits, but they are good. the main thing is to downsize. I like throwing my lucky craft lc 0.5, which is a jdm bait but not terribly expensive at around $10. I do need to get a karashi, been meaning to for years. that thing looks legit. it's funny watching most bassboat guys get skunked because all they do is pull 2ft off the bank and finesse fish whilst staring at a screen. meanwhile I can just randomly fan cast around 50ft off the bank and catch shit from my kayak.
