>>851514They actually work pretty well when done like that pic as long as you tie the hook right. That's how you tie a drop-shot rig and not some other setup. The fish will go right for the big bait anyway. Only issue I have with them is that I wasn't setting the hook hard enough. I was running them with a 1/4oz bell weight and something about having the hook between the weight and rod messed with it so even with braid and a fast rod I had to make sure I was setting it hard enough.
Tie one up like the pic. Having the hook tied directly to the line actually works well when giving it little twitches that aren't hard enough to move the weight. It makes for a good, slow finesse setup when the fish are being really picky. And that way you don't have to worry about the rig getting all tangled.
