>>285668>>284983 here. New development today. No corn in my back yard this year. My wife was talking to my mother-in-law about what we were planning to do regarding heirloom corn varieties and she's interested as well. My in-laws have 28 acres behind their house that's supposed to be planted dryland cotton this year. After talking to her, only 27.5 acres will be cotton and half an acre will be corn. The guy who farms it is a family friend and he'll plow our corn plot, too. That means we'll have neat, deep rows that are blocked on the ends and will hold water very well. The planting will be as in pic related. It's windy here, so you plant two seeds two inches apart where normally you'd plant one and the corn stalks will help support each other. That's why you see two dots everywhere there's a plant. You plant halfway up the sides of two lands facing the same furrow with intervals specified with your seed and each row offset. This furrow will be irrigated and will allow you to water 2/3 of your crop by watering 1/2 your rows. The furrow not irrigated is planted in the bottom and anything you get from it is a bonus.
