Here's a question: i know it's very trendy nowadays to buy beta from the gunks app or guidebooks. You'll see every gumby with a book in their hand at the crag. My question is, who the fuck pays for this information, when free resources like mountain project have existed since the dawn of the internet? And why is beta commoditized? Ever heard of a first ascent? Wtf. I'm not a commie, but this info is for the community. You think you can sell information like this? Fuck you, I'll never pay you. I'll get it somewhere else, I'll pirate it, or I'll just climb it without beta. Fuck you and your politically correct names, your bolted trad belays, your climbing clubs. Fuck that.
And the beta that i do have from my own first ascents, I'll never tell, or at least i won't go spraying it, but selling that info to Gumbies is even worse than giving it away on MP. I really like MP, the app is amazing. We have all the infrastructure to share beta with live gps for free, and gunks-yuppies ruin it. Guess what, motherfuckers, beta in general is not copyright protected, i can post the same info in a different form and people inevitably will so fuck you. If someone wants to know about climbs, I'll just tell them not charge them ten dollars - it's not like this is a barrier to entry for yuppie Gumbies anyway. And then they spend money on guide books instead of climbing manuals, they don't even know how to abseil so there's lowering hardware everywhere, they pay dues to these pozzed organizations that besmirch the spirit of the sport. No, climbing is not for everybody, all sizes of all people. The rock does discriminate, the rock fucking hates you and so do I you goddamn pussies.
More of a rant than a question i guess :)
