>>2333504Most rods are designed in a way that makes little sense honestly. It makes more sense to have a lot of grip surface above the reel seat, not below it like most rods. I keep only my pinky under the reel, and the other three fingers above it, that way my pointer finger can easily grab the line to hold for casting without the need to readjust. If you have huge hands, you might have two fingers under the reel, and two above... but it still makes more sense to have a longer grip above the reel than under. pic related is a good comfortable design, unfortunately most rods have very little grip area above the reel though, and it's nowhere near as naturally comfortable feeling.
