Just remember that the great majority of rabbits die in their first year of life, killed by predators that will eat them alive. You're a merciful god by comparison to a hawk.
A lot of people have little rituals for when they kill that seem to help them keep an even keel. Like another anon said, the "last bite" gesture is a common one. Just touch the nearest greenery to the animal's mouth when you first get to the body. I have more of those twigs than any other kind of trophy.
