I'm not against art, at all. I'm an artist! But art can say and celebrate different things, and shitting the image of some big, violent "Great Man" over the landscape or exalting him at the cost of untold hours of others' labor is an odious and toxic thing to say.
I don't even, like OP maybe does, think "nature" should stay untouched. But it shouldn't be subordinated to people's dreams and nostalgias of violent domination. Pic related, "Spiral Jetty," by Robert Smithson, is probably the most iconic piece from a movement called "Land Art" /out/ people will probably either love or hate. Personally I love it.
