Nylon degrades over time. How it's stored also affects that material (hot car, near chemicals/cleaners if you keep it in the garage). Heat from friction of a rope can also damage the material (Critical temperature of dyneema is about 150°F). Abrasions/cuts from use, stitching pulling out, i've seen that happen.
