Moras are made of high quality steel in Sweden. They never break in normal use. As a knife enthusiast I admit they are not aesthetically very nice but for a tool, function is far more important than looks.
For fishing, I don't think there is a more safe, sharp and hygienic knife than SS Companion. No leather sheath, no natural handle materials, no cavities, no scales and screws, nothing that could harbour all that nasty stuff. Very safe grip even with slimy, bloody hands.
FYI old Mora designs are not so great. Classic Mora (Cody Lundin wore it on TV) has slippery wooden handle, made-to-fail rat tang and no guard at all. One model, from 90's I think, has a hollow handle and a huge guard that gets in the way.
There's no obsession with Moras. It's the fact you need to pay about 200 dollars to get a substantially better knife than 12 dollar Mora. That's because most knifes don't have scandi grind and the few that do, have other design flaws. You're left with very few options, most of them very expensive. I can't even remember any affordable scandi grinds, other than Condor Bushlore and Boker Bushcraft both made of steel most likely inferior to Swedish steel and the finish just isn't there.
