>>1791464Sounds to me like you're overestimating both the aggression of predatory animals towards humans as well as their understanding. Most of the time, a critter will see your setup and think, "Oh FUCK, that's not something cool" and won't even come near. The only time I've ever had a bear come through a camp was because we made apple cobbler in a dutch oven and didn't clean it all out. Burr's love sweets, but even then we were able to get it out of camp very easily by just shouting "Hey bear!" a few times.
If you get good rest in a hammock and think they are comfortable and that fear is your major hangup on getting a hangon, I'd just say get out there and level up. There's always some level of fear on your first few trips, hell, I used to have the same concerns, just really freaked out able getting attacked at night. It's all just a matter of adjusting your comfort zone, and gaining more understanding about the way animals behave out there. 99/100 times the branches breaking you hear are birds, rodents, or other small mammals.
