People who think serrations are bad should spend as much time sharpening them than they spend sharpening the rest of the blade. A serrated edge provides a greater cutting length than a straight one, it has better penetration capabilities, and works wonders with soft and/or fibrous materials, while of course, on harder materials like hard wood, they end up being less effective. The way you use is also very different, seeing as you saw rather than hack with it, requiring less strength though more precision. A different cutting motion can be pretty useful in some cases.
We all have different /out/doors activities, there's no ultimate tool for anything. I use pic related and I'm fine with it.
