>>2641482The kauri are really impressive, but they only really grow northland and coromandel where it's warm enough along with having big areas of rugged bush. They grew all between that as well, around what is now auckland etc. They were heavily logged they made fantastic timer for building ships houses etc. And even there was an industry built around digging around for their gum which can be made into beautiful things, later on. There's plenty of these trees still around those areas but a 100 year old tree still isn't that amazing. Those specimen remaining that are truly impressive where you can find them, are perhaps 2500 years old, 15 meters wide around the trunk and 50 meters tall
