REI has the single best return policy. I've returned ski tour boots 3 years after I bought them because the toe broke after 3-4 days of use and the store took them back with no complaints. However REI has no real high end gear to speak of.
TheMountainProject has an awesome listing of current deals from rei, moosejaw, gearx and many other online stores. It's centered around climbing though
All of my running gear comes from runningwarehouse when I can't find it in my local running store (noone in the states carries inov-8)
Prolite gear has an epic selection of high end ultralight gear, sadly it's priced like high end gear though. Great service and all the guys there know what they are doing on rock, ice, snow, and dirt.
