Any of you go magnet fishing? Not to many /out/ things to do where I live so I bought a magnet and I am going to give it a try.

I've done it on occasion, have gotten some cool but ultimately pretty worthless stuff.

Found out the hard way you don't use a magnet with more pulling power than your back does, probably got stuck to an old sunken car.

After losing my 250lb monster magnet to what was probably a car hood I went with a 50lb. There's been times I've gotten that stuck on stuff and ended up really spending some time working it loose but I've always gotten it back.

90% likely it was either stolen or a murder weapon and they ditched it. It had been in there a long damn time and was a cheapo, too corroded to tell but it was likely an Iver/H&R/H&A .32.

I got a puck magnet off amazon, it was like $5. The old 250lb was a bar magnet I bought off ebay. Something like https://www.amazon.com/CMS-Magnetics-Round-Magnet-Pulling/dp/B00I0G1O4C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1536698113&sr=8-1&keywords=50lb+magnet would get you started, but you'll also need an eye bolt and a nut to fit it.

I use 1/4" poly rope since it absorbs less water than something like 550 cord, doesn't tangle easily, and is dirt fucking cheap.

Yea- I worked on boats. Kept magnet on a line to try to get tools when I dropped them in the water. I've pulled up a lot of garbage- lawn chairs and shit. Rarely would ever get my tool back.
