I've been wanting to get another bike for the longest time. I mainly ride on road back when I had a bike, but I loved my Suzuki DR. It was very quiet so

Also i now know that I was probably in places I shouldn't have been with it, so that muted exhaust was probably to my advantage My DR was a very small one (250cc), and was too small for me, but it was a fun ride. Ran somewhat smoothly on road, and ok on trails. but was nice to have one bike to 'almost' accomplish everything.
It's obviously not as comfortable on road as a road bike.
Not as quick as a crotch rocket
Not as comfortable as a road bike
Not as much storage as an old man bike
Not super stiff suspension, and knobby tires stock as a dirt bike
They're not a perfect solution for... anything really...
But:
You'll have more height than a crotch rocket
You'll have more traction than a road bike
You'll have something smaller and more trail worthy than an old man touring bike
You'll be able to drive it right back home after you're done trail riding
