Anyone else go cross country skiing here?

It's really good exercise and there's nothing I enjoy more in the winter than being /out/ on a beautiful day when all the trees are covered in snow.

It’s too bad the northeast is getting dickall for snow this year. I’d love to go out there and posthole through some cross country ski trails

That sucks. It was looking really bad here in East Norway with no snow in early December, but then we got half a meter over one week, which is just enough to make trails.

Yes, I really enjoy it as well. I am fortunate enough to have trails out my backdoor but also love skiing in Yellowstone

I just made these over Christmas break. WW2 ski dimensions with old school Norwegian carved tips. Modern boots and bindings. Work nice in powder. Ice, not so much.

Yes, competitive xc skier here. Live in southern Sweden and there is only artificial snow here atm so it really sucks.
Also had alot of illnesses so far this season, hope I can get back and compete at my normal level in february.

I went cross country skiing a dickload last year, but we've had a dry winter, except for one batch of freezing rain. Shit sucks.

So I'm ice fishing mostly.

yes- April. I was awesome day- mid-50s but tons of snow still...the only issue was the herd of bison in my way...had to ski way around them to get where I needed to go.

Get some skis and try it. I'm not very good at it but aim to progress. Crossing flat country is easy peasy, but riding downhill on Nordic skies is an art.

if you have a local X-country ski center with groomed trails etc...they likely rent equipment for the day. Just go give it a try.

Steamed them, they are 60% lighter than my AT skis, which is why I made them. Feels like I'm floating on the snow which we just had 20" of yesterday.

Yes went yesterday. I don't like going on groomed trails, completely defeats the purpose of getting out imo. Breaking trail isn't the most fun in the world, but it's still worth it because you really feel that you are exploring something new and on the downhills the fresh snow helps regulate your speed.
Frozen ponds and swamps are the absolute best to explore, just gotta be careful because the swamps don't always freeze that well
>fell into several feet of slush yesterday
got pretty lucky I didn't get my boots and clothes soaked, but that sinking feeling and being stuck for a bit as the snow stuck and hardened to my skiis while I was alone and miles deep into the wilderness wasn't great.

Is there a worse possible place to live than the Northeast? Jesus christ this entire region is shit from top to bottom.

>no mountains at all (no the appalachians are the whites are not mountains)
>has a reputation for being snowy but doesn't even fucking snow

meanwhile

>be in california
>perfect weather yearround
>drive 20 minutes in either direction if i want a winter wonderland
>perfect roads
>cars dont instantly fall apart due to ice and salt

I wish we could just level the Northeast. What a pathetic place to live

Those flat places in western and central Europe that don't have a winter, but instead three more months of November. Nothing but rain and gray skies for four months and whatever snow that falls is gone the next day.
