Depends what you mean with meme Company. It is better to invest in quality than subpar gear, and of course there are overpriced brands but also brands where you get what you pay for. I am not american and do not know what quality Walmart offers you, but in general it is better to invest in more expensive gear if you want it to last for more than one season.

If it fits you well and feel comfortable, it is probably allright for dayhikes and light camping. I am not gonna shit on a cheap backpack if it feels allright and fits, but if you were to buy one for longer trips you do more regurlary, I would invest in something more expensive.

I just use my old school backpack damned things gotta be 15 years old still does everything I ask of it just fine. Depending what your dooing you can probably get away with a cheap bag, although I can not say strongly enough to stay away from ozark trail. Only thing I ever bought from them that wasn't broken 24 hours later was some yeti cup rippoff that's actually pretty good, everything else is crap.

Ozark is super hit or miss
it's a quality control issue, not a quality issue
if you're willing to buy, test, return, repeat until you get something good, you can get great value even on things like the $8 multitool

Can't tell you about their backpacks, though; I don't backpack, though I'd like to someday.

OP, I say go for it if you want something to start you out. But,

1) Keep the receipt
2) Keep your eyes open for something nicer. Have you tried CL?

There is nothing wrong with buying a pack from Walmart and using it until it falls apart or you decide you want more features/better/comfort/etc. I'd rather you get a Walmart pack and start hiking than not hiking at all.

Just a personal account I bought a $50 60L backpack off amazon which I have been using for a few years and it’s now starting to tear and the zipper seams etc. what I learned from that pack is that cheap packs may be able to contain a lot of gear often times the stitching straps and support are not able to bear the weight

We since upgraded once we learned what we did and didn't like, but those two bags have helped us get friends of ours out with us without them needing to buy gear which is huge. If you treat it like a civilized adult it will be fine.

I had years of fun with a cheap pack before I upgraded. It’s like buying your first guitar. Do some research so cheap doesn’t equal crappy, then enjoy it. If you decide you want to get more hardcore into the hobby, buy a better one and pass the cheap one on , use it as a backup, etc.
